RODNEY’S STORY

My name is Rodney Timms and this is my story. I was physically abused from the time I was a small child until the age of 15. The beatings I received were weekly and it severely effected me mentally. When I was 8 years old I took the letters of the alphabet and switched them around to create my own language. I did this to occupy my mind and to keep me from going absolutely crazy.

When I was 15 years old I took the beating of my life along a deserted highway in Southwest Oklahoma. An hour and a half later I found myself lying on the side of the road near death’s door. My eyes were swollen completely shut and I couldn’t see, blood was oozing out of my mouth and I was bleeding internally. Because of this I have hearing loss in my right ear.

Sometimes I dream of what it would have been like for me if Childhelp was available at that time. It could have been the one thing that saved me - a life-changing event that could have effected me forever. I tell people all the time I lost 15 years of my life trying to figure out what I had done to cause this. Yes, I blamed myself as a lot of abused kids do who never get help. I was ashamed of what had happened. Had a facility like Childhelp been available things would have been different.

I support Childhelp in every way I possibly can – through my business – by putting the Hotline number on my company’s trucks.  The people involved with Childhelp have the purest hearts and compassion for abused kids. Childhelp’s Co-Founders Sara O’Meara and Yvonne Fedderson have set the example for everyone involved in this organization. God bless every one of them for their willingness to help. They are changing thousands of lives so children don’t have to grow up never knowing what love really is.
